2025 is almost here, and if there’s one thing I’m prioritizing this year, it’s being a better friend, partner, and just a better human being overall. We’re all about spreading positive energy, lifting each other up, and showing up for the people we love. But becoming a better version of yourself isn’t just about the grand gestures—it’s in the little things, the everyday actions that make a difference. So, if you’re looking to level up your friendships, your relationship, and the way you move through the world, here are five ways I’m committing to becoming a better version of myself in 2025.

1. Be Present—Like, Really Present
In a world where our attention is constantly being pulled in a million directions, I’m making a conscious effort to be more present with the people I love. Whether I’m hanging out with friends, spending time with my partner, or just chatting with someone at the grocery store, I’m putting away my phone and truly listening. It’s easy to get distracted, but being genuinely present is one of the simplest and most impactful ways to show someone you care. So, if we’re hanging out, you better believe I’m all in—no distractions, just good vibes and great conversation.

2. Celebrate the Little Wins
It’s easy to get caught up in the big milestones—promotion at work, buying a house, or getting engaged—but it’s the little wins that deserve just as much attention and help us avoid falling into the comparison trap if those big milestones aren't happening for us this year. . Did your friend finally make it to the gym after a week of tough mornings? Celebrate that! Did your partner finish a book they’ve been reading for months? Take a moment to appreciate the effort! I’m making a promise to myself this year to cheer on the small victories, because it’s these moments that build up to the big ones. Supporting someone in their everyday triumphs shows them that you’re in their corner, no matter how big or small the accomplishment.

3. Be Honest, But Always Kind
Honesty is key to any relationship, but it’s all about how you deliver it. I’m committed to being more transparent with my friends, partner, and even myself—but in a way that is rooted in love and respect. If something’s bothering me, I want to express it clearly without being harsh. If my friend is going through a rough time, I want to be there for them—whether it’s with tough love or just a shoulder to cry on. Honesty is important, but kindness is everything. 

4. Show Up, Even When It’s Hard
One of the most important ways to be a better friend, partner, and human being is simply showing up—even when it’s not convenient. Life can get busy, and it’s easy to let things slip through the cracks. I feel like it's easy to keep rescheduling plans because we know the other person won't take it personally, but that can easily become months (or years) that you've gone without seeing someone. I’m vowing to show up, even when it’s hard. Whether it’s attending a friend’s event I wasn’t initially planning to go to or doing something sweet for my husband even when work is crazy, consistency in showing up for the people you care about creates trust and deepens bonds. So, even on the days when I’m tired or distracted, I’m going to prioritize the people who matter most to me. They deserve that.

5. Practice Empathy—Not Just Sympathy
Empathy is the secret ingredient that transforms good relationships into great ones. It’s one thing to feel bad for someone going through a tough time, but it’s another thing to put yourself in their shoes and really feel with them. This year, I’m making it my goal to practice empathy more often. When my friends, partner, or even strangers face challenges, I want to understand their emotions and offer support in ways that truly align with what they need. It’s not always about offering solutions, but about letting them know that they’re seen, heard, and cared for. Because when you can step into someone else’s emotional world, you show them that they’re never alone.

These five little changes might sound simple, but I believe they’re the foundation for building better friendships, stronger relationships, and, ultimately, a more fulfilling life. So, let’s make 2025 the year we show up for the people we love—not just with grand gestures, but in the everyday ways that make all the difference.

My sister and I do a very sibling-y activity of pointing out which character in the movie we’re watching represents each other. While going through my fifth rewatch of Little Women, she routinely pointed and said “That’s you.” The character on the screen was Jo March. Independent, strong-willed, lonely Jo March. 

Jo March represented qualities I yearned to have. A quick-witted aspiring writer who repels the prospect of marriage during a time when it was seen as an economic proposition. Her strong-willed tenacity granted her an icon but with her rejection of most companionship and support, she was extremely lonely.

Like Jo, my belief and yearning for freedom transformed into a trap of lonely isolation. The need to run errands alone, and complete every task without one ounce of assistance turns into a toxic entitlement towards proving yourself to be worth living. And with that crippling fear of being a liability in life, insert the trauma response that is hyper-independence.

Get Crafty

Decorating your home, or personal space, for the season is essential, especially if you are someone who loves to do DIY projects! The first solo activity is one that you can do from the comfort of your own home. 

Fall leaf-pressed candles have been trending on TikTok and Instagram since the weather hit below 70 degrees. This quick and easy craft will spice up your fall decorations and bring a unique touch to your home. 

What you need: 

• A set of wax candles

• Fake fall leaves 

• Wax paper 

• Iron (if you do not have an iron, you can use a hair dryer!)

How to create the perfect fall candle: 

1. Select a few leaves and arrange them on the wax candle. 

2. Once you finalize the placement of the leaves, place the wax paper over a leaf and gently, with low to medium heat, place the iron on top of the paper. The leaf will melt right into place on the candle. 

3. Repeat this process until you have a new festive candle!

What you need:

• One wide glass vase 

• One tall glass vase

• Set of fake, decorative pumpkins 

• Fall leaf stems 

Creating the pumpkin centerpiece: 

1. First, take the wide, glass vase and place it on your table. Next, take the tall, glass vase, and place it inside the wide vase. This will create an inner circle where the pumpkins will fill the space. 

2. Take your decorative pumpkins and layer them in the vase. Fill the wide vase to the top, so it almost looks like you are hiding the tall vase! 

3. Finally, take your fall leaf stems and strategically place them into the tall vase as you would do with flowers. Arrange them to your liking.

Colder weather and the changing of leaves call for new fall jewelry. For this solo activity, you can create a personal charm necklace for yourself that will become a staple in each of your fall outfits. 

The first step to making a charm necklace is to research some jewelry shops near you. Many local shops have the creative ability to make necklaces or bracelets. If you find one near you, have a solo date and create a necklace to your liking. 

If you do not have a local shop near you that offers charm necklaces, here are the steps to do it yourself and make a necklace by hand! 

What you need:

Explore a Farmers Market

Sunday resets are essential, especially as the seasons are changing. Almost every Sunday, you can find a farmers market in your local town. Attending a farmers market to collect some fresh produce, test out new samples, or try new products is something I have loved doing by myself. On a fresh fall morning, a farmers market is the perfect place to reset your mind! 

Oftentimes, I like to find what my town or surrounding towns are hosting through their local newsletters or websites. One week there might be a new food truck or local business trying to get its feet on the ground, while other weeks there might be a free pumpkin-picking event. For me, this is the perfect fall activity as you get to stroll around, meet new people, and purchase your favorite things! 

A farmers market essential for me is a reusable tote bag. You can find a reusable bag at almost any store, as it is now not only more acceptable to use reusable bags, but it is more fashionable too.
